Explore When researching, I found that plants function by absorbing water and minerals from the soil and anchor the plant in the ground. The stem supports the plant above ground, and carries the water and minerals to the leaves. I learned that the root bar of the plants is what absorbs water which is then transferred throughout the plant. It is transferred throughout the plant because of the plants vascular system. Some plants are more tolerant to diseases because some plants could evolve faster than others or through time they change and so they won't get affected as much as other plants. But I found that there are several environmental factors that can impact plant disease some being pests, water availability, and soil fertility.
Research Question Will the rot degenerate one vegetable faster than the other?
Predictions We believe that some vegetables will rot differently due to the fact that some will have a different reaction.
Experimental Design ‌Our‌ ‌plan‌ ‌is‌ ‌to‌ ‌conduct‌ ‌an‌ ‌experiment‌ ‌that‌ ‌tests‌ ‌each‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌vegetables‌ ‌durability‌ ‌to‌ ‌certain‌ ‌ conditions‌ ‌for‌ ‌example‌ ‌the‌ ‌power‌ ‌of‌ ‌sunlight‌ ‌results‌ ‌will‌ ‌show‌ ‌us‌ ‌which‌ ‌one‌ ‌grows‌ ‌the‌ ‌fastest‌ ‌or‌ ‌ the‌ ‌slowest‌ ‌and‌ ‌we‌ ‌will‌ ‌observe‌ ‌the‌ ‌growth‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌averages‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌vegetables.‌ ‌We‌ ‌will‌ ‌test‌ ‌the‌ ‌ independent‌ ‌which‌ ‌is‌ ‌the‌ ‌rot‌ ‌that‌ ‌is‌ ‌going‌ ‌to‌ ‌be‌ ‌put‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌vegetables‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌dependent‌ ‌ variable‌ ‌is‌ ‌the‌ ‌vegetables.‌ ‌The‌ ‌variables‌ ‌we‌ ‌will‌ ‌measure‌ ‌and‌ ‌observe‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌the‌ ‌growth‌ ‌ vegetable‌ ‌and‌ ‌observe‌ ‌how‌ ‌it‌ ‌rots‌ ‌throughout‌ ‌the‌ ‌days‌ ‌we‌ ‌have.‌ ‌The‌ ‌variable‌ ‌we‌ ‌will‌ ‌keep‌ ‌ constant‌ ‌is‌ ‌the‌ ‌vegetable‌ ‌that‌ ‌is‌ ‌rot.The‌ ‌way‌ ‌we‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌recording‌ ‌our‌ ‌data‌ ‌is‌ ‌by‌ ‌making‌ ‌a‌ ‌ percentage‌ ‌data‌ ‌table‌ ‌and‌ ‌updating‌ ‌it‌ ‌everyday.‌ ‌
Conclusion The claim that I can make from this experiment is that sweet potatoes are more resistant to soft rot compared to the other vegetables the cucumbers and potatoes. My results show me that the cucumbers are the least resistant to soft rot compared to the other vegetables. The results on my data tables showed me that the cucumbers´ rot grew the most, then the potatoes rot grew the second fastest, and the slowest growing rot was in the sweet potato. The potatoes and cucumbers soft rot a day was growing on an average of a little more than 1 inch a day. The growth of the rot in the sweet potato was averaging .5 inch a day. To be able to expand on the results of this experiments what I believe could be done is more experiments like this with a bigger variety of vegetables and some different types of vegetables. I also think that different types of rots can be used in different types of vegetables.
