Explore Seeds germinate in many different conditions and environment. Some seeds can be extremely resistant to changes in environment. We learned in class that there are dicots and monocots.
Research Question Do seeds germinate better in rock, paper-towel method, or soil?
Predictions We think the seeds will germinate better in soil than in rocks. The reason why we think seeds will germinate in soil better than rocks is because the soil are closer together and therefore are able to retain water and nutrients better than rocks. Additionally, soil have more nutrients and minerals that might help seeds germinate faster than in rocks or paper-towel.
Experimental Design 1. Gather soil, rocks, paper towels, and seeds for the project 2. Wash and clean the seeds 3. Label three cups as 1, 2, and 3 4. Put rocks in cup 1, soil in cup 2, and paper towels in cup 3 5. Add one seed into each cup and water all seeds regularly 6. Observe the seeds growth and record the results
Conclusion The seeds in the paper towels grow quicker then seeds in the soil and rocks. The paper towel seeds were exposed constantly exposed to moisture and came first in growth. The seeds in soil grew naturally and came second in growth. The seeds in the rocks were not always exposed to a water and had to grow around the rocks and came third in growth. The data we collected supports our reasoning because the seeds in the paper towel were always ahead of the soil whilst the seeds in the rocks barely grew. We could expand on this experiments by adding more materials to grow seeds in or changing others things like light exposure.
