Research Question If the quality of the water changes, will it affect the rate of germination?
Predictions If we Change the quality of water we give to 5 different Petri dishes of Ryegrass, then I think the Ryegrass will do best in the Petri dish with pure water (ph=7) or black coffee (ph=5)because Ryegrass is best in a ph of 5.5 to 7.5 water/soil
Experimental Design Soak 50 ryegrass seeds overnight Lable 5 Petri dishes with numbers 1-5. Put 2 layers of circled shape paper napkins in the petri dish. Put ten ryegrass seeds into each Petri dish and make sure that they are spread out and can’t get under the paper towels DO NOT WATER THEM YET. Only spray petri dish #1 with regular water. Give it a good 2 full sprays Put one cup of regular water in a cup and 2 tablespoons of salt and let dissolve fully Put the salt water in a spray bottle Next, spray petri dish #2 with the salt water; make sure to give it a good 2 sprays Mix together a cup of water and 4 tablespoons of vinegar, mix well Put this vinegar into a new spray bottle or clean the previous well, and use the old one Spray petri dish #3 with this spray bottle; again make sure to spray with a good 2 sprays Mix together a cup of water and 3 tablespoons of soap Put this soapy water into a new spray bottle or clean the previous well, and use the old one Spray petri dish #4 with this spray bottle; again make sure to spray with a good 2 sprays Put 1 cup+2 tablespoon of coffee into the next spray bottle; when you are making the coffee make sure that there are 1 tablespoon of coffee ground to one cup of water Spray petri dish #5 with this spray bottle; again make sure to spray with a good 2 sprays If you do not have 5 spray bottles save the water variations in bottles so you won’t have to repeat steps 4-15 every day Make sure to find time every day to water the seeds with the same liquids 3 times a day
