A seed’s planting depth is about two to three times its diameter/width. Some small seeds won’t germinate unless they are not covered in soil. The depth of planting should also vary depending on the weather and kind of soil.
Seeds that require lots of sunlight and warm temperature thrive when they are planted close to the surface. Not all plants need light to germinate (these seeds are planted farther down in the soil.) depth of the soil sometimes depends on what type of soil you have the harder soil the more you want to have your seed closer to the surface. |
Research Question |
How does depth of planting affect the speed and how successful germination is? |
Predictions |
If seeds are planted closer to the surface then the seed will germinate at a faster and healthier pace because the closer a plant is to the surface, the more oxygen and sunlight the plant has. A seed should have most successful germination when it’s planted at about twice its width. |
Experimental Design |
At 10:05 we will water and take pics
Every day we will water the plant with 15 ml amount of water
During class, we will check our soil, and write down our observations |
