Research Question Does different water temperature effect the rate of photosynthesis?
Predictions If we use water temperatures, then the rate of photosynthesis will either increase or decrease because of the water's heat or coolness.
Experimental Design Photosynthesis Lab Test 1. Gather materials 2. Cut out 12 spinach leaf disks. 3. Add 100 mL of water to a cup, making sure its room temperature (20° C) 4. Add 1 gram of baking soda to the water; mix. 5. Take a syringe and put the leaf disks inside, pushing the air out. 6. Put the end of the syringe into the water and baking soda mixture. 7. Pull the end until the stopper gets to 10. 8. On the open end of the syringe, place your thumb and push the handle. 9. After you’ve pushed the handle, pull it away from your thumb. 10. Repeat until the disks have floated to the bottom. 11. Once done, pour the disks into the water mix. 12. Set them under a light for 10 minutes. 13. Record how many disks have floated to the top every minute. 14. Once they’ve all floated to the top, dump them out and set up for the next trial. 15. Once you’ve gotten set up for the next trial, change the water to 30° C. 16. Repeat steps 2-14. 17. After the 2nd trial, reset the water temp. to 10° C. 18. Repeat the steps for the 3rd trial. 19. Once you’ve recorded the data for the 3rd trial, get ready for the 4th and final one. 20. For the final trial, the water temp needs to be 40° C. 21. Once you’ve finished the steps for the trial, you can start your data table. 22. To calculate your data and averages, add the 2 numbers (under the water temperatures) and divide them by 2. 23. Plug your data into a computer program (of your choice) to calculate a table or bar graph.
