We know that plants have symbiotic relationships with fungi and they allow for them to grow and get access to nutrients more easily. There are also existing kin relationships as different studies have been made and have supported that plants can recognize kin. |
Research Question |
We want to test how the bananas could be affected by the disease Fusarium oxysporum and whether Mycorrhizae would reduce the effects of the disease on the bananas. |
Predictions |
If the bananas are grown with mycorrhizae and infected with the Fusarium oxysporum, then they will have a higher chance of survival. We think this will happen as the symbiotic relationship with the fungi could possibly help the bananas create a stronger defense mechanism. |
Experimental Design |
The plan is to apply Mycorrhizae to banana plants and let them grow. This will be the experimental group . The control will be banana plants without Mycorrhizae, growing naturally. After the banana plants have grown 10 inches the Fusarium oxyporum will be applied to all banana plants. The height of the banana plants will be compared between the experimental and control group. The constants will be the soil type, the temperature, the amount of water and type of banana . |
