Plant Guardians

Project by group othsmikosspring2020

Explore They give us oxygen. We can eat them. They need sunlight and water to live. They can grow. They have roots. They soak up water through their roots. Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are connected. Photosynthesis uses CO2, water, and sunlight to make glucose and oxygen. Why do some plants grow big and some grow small?
Research Question Will a closer lamp maks photosynthesis faster? We thought about trees being closer up to the sun so we were wondering if the trees did it faster.
Predictions Possible solutions are that the closer lamp will be faster, the farther lamp will go faster, and they will both be the same speed. We think the closer lamp will be faster because the sunlight is right against the cup do leaves eill absorb more faster.
Experimental Design Our plan is to get two cups with 2.5 centimeters of water in each. We will put 10 leaf circles in each cup. We will put one lamp 1 centimeter away and another lamp 4 centimeters away. We will measure how many leaves float in each cup. The variables that are constant is the amount of leaves in each cup, the amount of water, and the time under the lamp. We will record our data in a data table.
