Info

Explore We know that plants are the product of seeds germinating and that our plants needs sufficient sunlight, water and soil to germinate. We have chosen soil compaction as our independent variable in this experiment. All other factors will remain the same.
Research Question We are planning on researching how soil compaction affects the growth and germination of a corn seed. We chose this question because we wanted to see how important oxygen is for a corn seed to germinate.
Predictions We think that the seed will grow better in the soil that is less compacted. We think this because the oxygen will get to the seed more easily. Meanwhile if the soil is extremely compacted it will be a lot harder for the oxygen to reach the seed therefore making the seed grow more slowly.
Experimental Design We plan on using a hydraulic press to press the soil by 0.2, 0.5, and 1 ton. (1 of the pots was untouched). When it is pressed the seeds will be placed around the pot. We will be keeping the amount of sunlight, type and amount of soil, type of seed, and number of seeds the same throughout our...
Conclusion What claim can we make from our experiment? What are possible explanations for our results? How do the data we collected and our reasoning with scientific ideas support our claim? What future experiments could be done to expand on the results of this experiment?
About this Project

It was well assembled, and well explained with clear, concise grammar.

We have also changed the seed we will be planting to corn seed.

hello, thank you for getting back to us. We have not planted the seed yet and we will be using store bought soil. We have questions about how much water, light, and soil we should add to the seeds.

What types of planting mediums are you using? ex: soil from your yard, store bought, synthetic mix? I imagine you have control and experimental groups. Have you planted the seeds yet?

Hello, I am very sorry for the late reply. This is a very important lesson and I am happy to be apart of it.

hello, Patricia we have chosen to experiment with tiger lily seed. We have also chosen the question, how does soil compaction affect the growth and germination of a seed?.

We have thought of these because each of these topics are interesting to us all. We have researched only a little about these topics but we are all eager to learn more.

hello we were thinking about exploring how lead in soil effects how the seed(s) will grow or how soil compaction will effect the germination of  a seed(s). We would love to have your opinion on this project. Please contact us if you have any input.
