A plant is a living Organism and there are various types of plants including Flowers, trees and Vegetables, We are been taught to name and Identify common plants in their local environment for example, We learn to recognise different trees ( Oak, maple, willow, pine and Cherry).
What have discovered in class and back we learnt about the structure of a plant: leaves, Flowers, petals, seeds, trunk, branches and stem. We were be taught the function of each part of the plant ( Water transportation) and how they carry out photosynthesis through sunlight and present of Chlorophyll and we learnt about the different needs of plants: this means what conditions plants need to grow for examples, water, light temperature, soil, nutrients and space.
What question about plants interest us?
The power of sunlight. |
Research Question |
We want to study How the Power of Sunlight help Telfairia Occidentalis of cucurbitaceae as family indigenous to southern Nigeria to grow well more than those in shade.
It emphasis on how Power of sunlight help Telfairia occiidentalis exposed it than the one on the Shade. |
Predictions |
Some Physical Differences between Power sunlight and Shade plants. What is the physical different between Telfairia occidentalis that grow in the direct sunlight and those that grow in the shade ?
Some Telfairia occidentalis produced 'Sun leaves' in direct sunlight ' Shade leaves' where the leaves are Shaded by others. Those in charge of Power sunlight grow well the seedlings of Telfairia occidentalis and those Telfairia occidentalis in shade did not grow well. |
Experimental Design |
Introduction:
Abstract
We got the seed of Telfairia occidentalis and planted it by nursery it and after it grow up, Three were been taken and The experimental of Exposure to power of sunlight ,shade and semi shade and were been noticed and the Telfairia occidentalis in power sunlight grows well while the semi shade and shade did not grow well.
Materials and methods:
Seedlings of Telfairia occidentalis, small bucket or cup, loamy soil, and watering can.
A Telfairia occidentalis is been placed under a power of sunlight and the others were been exposed to semi shade and shade for two weeks.
observation:
The Telfairia occidentalis leaves are typically larger in area but thinner than sun leaves of Telfairia occidentalis in power sunlight.
The Telfairia occidentalis sun leaves become thicker than shade leaves because they develop longer palisade cells.
On a weight basis, Shade leaves generally have more chlorophyll, (This is because the chloroplasts have more grana- you can look this up in a more advanced text book if you would like to know the details of chloroplasts structure ).
In shade leaves ,the chloroplasts move within the cells to take up a position where they will absorb the maximum tight without shading other chloroplasts take turns in the bright light and then shelter in the shade of others whilst than make use of the light they have absorbed too much bright light would destroy the chloroplasts).
The Telfairia occidentalis in power sunlight and Shade leaves' can differ in the amount of photosynthesis by a factor of up to 5 for the same amount of light.
Most of these adaptations take place during leaf development there is little a leaf (Or a plant) can do if its light Conditions change. |
Conclusion |
At the end of the Experiment it was discovered that the Telfairia occidentalis seedlings on the Power of sunlight grow well more than those in the shade. |
