Power Plants

Project by group nsbuzzellfall2021

Explore How many different plants are there? I have some experience with plants before but not much. What else interacts with the plant community? Haven’t talked very much about plants before in class
Research Question For our experiment, we are going to change the water we use to water the plants. For the first experiment, we want to use freshwater which will grow like a normal plant. Next, we will add a little bit of salt to the water and it would probably also grow like a normal plant. For the third experiment, we are going to add about half the salt and it will most likely grow as much and be dry as well. Lastly, we would do the last experiment and add a lot of water which we think won’t grow at all and be very dry.
Predictions We think that the first two will die quickly with the most salt in them but the freshwater one and the one with ¼ will grow almost the same as the freshwater one. Those are our predictions for each plant.
Experimental Design We will be adding salt into three of the water mixers. The first one will be pure water then the second one will have ¼ of the oceans salt percentage, the second one will have half of the oceans salt percentage, then the fourth one will have full of the oceans salt percentage. We will document all of our information as we go with this project. We will test how much salt a plant can handle before it completely dies. The water and sunlight amount will stay the same throughout the entire project and so will the salt intake for each plant. We will be watering every plant every other day.
Conclusion At first we had thought that all of the saltwater plants would die quickly and we were quickly proven wrong. All of the saltwater plants except the ½ had grown and had been doing really well until the end. The ½ saltwater plants had not sprouted and we may have put too much salt in the water for all of the saltwater but more of the ½ mixture. But otherwise, all of the plants have done really well but mostly the freshwater plants. They had sprouted on the first day of putting the seeds in there which gave them a really good start. If we do this project again we should measure out the right amounts the first time and use the same measuring stick every time because when we did use a different type of measuring stick it gave us really off measurements. Another thing we could do is give all the plants a little bit more sunlight otherwise we would keep all the other things the same.
