Killer Kale

Project by group nebuzzellspring2018

Explore We know that plants need water and sunlight to grow. We know that it takes them a long amount of time to grow. There are many different plants people grow for different uses.
Research Question How much water is too much for a soybean? How much water is too little.
Predictions we predict that 1/4 cup would have the best growth out of all the cups.
Experimental Design You need potting soil, 8 solo cups, sixteen soybeans seeds, measuring cups, a ruler, and a natural light source. We will plant our soybeans 1 and ½ inches in the soil and will water the plants every two days with 1/4, 1/2 and 1 cups of water. We will put two seeds in each cup spread apart as far as possible without touching the sides of the cup. Two cups will be used for each treatment -You will need to label the cups (1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, and 1 cup) to remember the amounts of water to put in each. Each day we will track the progression of germination. Once you have your cup poke a hole through the bottom and sides near the bottom for drainage. Once they sprout you will need a ruler to measure their hight every day. You will need to make a table to record your data every day on forgetting this. We are measuring our plants in centimeters so there is never any confusion about there hight.
Conclusion Our hypothesis was supported. The control and 1/4 cup were the tallest of all the plants that we had. The 1 cup was the lowest of all of them because the first week or so they kept overflowing when we were trying to water them, but one we added more holes they started to drain out more and not overflow as much. I think that if we had as many drainage holes in the cups as we had like halfway through the 1 cups may have sprouted.
