Shamrock o' Clock

Project by group nebuzzellspring2018

Explore I know that plants need different amounts of sunlight, and they also need different amounts of water, and they need to be in different environments to survive. Two questions about plants that interest me are: why do plants grow fruits and berries, and how do different temperatures of water affect the plant.
Research Question How does a different temperature (freezing, room temperature and burning), applied to a seed one time, affect its growth?
Predictions We predict that the different temperature of seeds will affect the growth. If we freeze it, we think it will grow slower, if we burn it, it could grow faster or not grow at all.
Experimental Design Our plan is to change the temperature of the 9 corn seeds, and the 90 ryegrass seeds, and we will be using 50 ML of water per cup every other day, and we will be giving the seeds 12 hours of sunlight each day. to change the temperature we will be burning one corn seed and one ryegrass seed, and also freeze 3 corn seed and 20 ryegrass seed, and keep the extra 3 corn seed and 20 ryegrass seed at room temperature.
Conclusion Our results did not support our hypothesis. Our hypothesis was that burning and freezing the seeds would kill the cells and make it so they don't grow. Well, our conclusion ends up being that burning the seeds caused the plants to grow faster than the regular and frozen ones. The only thing in our hypothesis that was right was that freezing corn seeds would kill the cells. This was right because our frozen corn seeds did not grow at all.
