Explore We have been involved in a couple Agricultural classes such as Ag Biology, Ag chemistry and currently Advanced Interdisciplinary Science for Sustainable Agriculture. Other involvements in agriculture would be that both Glady and Maria have worked in the agricultural fields maintaining product. From past experience, we know that different methods of both planting and maintaining plants will potentially affect how it will develop and grow. We want to know what those methods are and as a start, we will focus on soil amendments and their effect in the growth process of a radish seed.
Research Question How can soil amendments influence plant growth?
Predictions Adding coffee grounds into the soil will be a much more effective way of increasing radish growth compared to regular miracle growth soil, natural soil, or cotton.
Experimental Design To begin with, the materials that are going to be needed are Miracle-Gro Potting Soil Mix, Coffee Grounds, natural soil, Cotton, 14 Container pots. Our steps are: 1. Pour soil mix in 3 pots 2. Place radish seeds in containers and then cover up with soil mix 3. Pour about 2-3 in. of water (check consistency) Water 3 times a week: Monday - record growth by measuring and taking picture Thursday - record growth by measuring and taking picture Friday - record growth by measuring and taking picture 4. Mix soil mix and coffee grounds 5. Pour the mix into 3 pots 6.Place radish seeds in containers and then cover up with soil mix 7. Repeat step 3 8. Pour natural soil in 3 separate pots 9. Place 2 seeds per containers and then cover up with soil mix 10. Repeat step 3 11. Place cotton in 3 separate containers 12. Place radish seeds in containers 13. Repeat step 3 ( might be less water) 14. Keep all pots with seeds near sunlight
