Explore From our experience outside of school we know that the plants that are in greenhouses have to have the correct temperature, light and water. Not all plants require the same amount of water. Some plants grow in the sun and some in the cold weather. From the background research that we have been doing we have learned that if we add too much water to the radishes it can rot and split the roots. We found out that they grow best in cool temperatures (50 to 65 degrees). We have also learned that there are different types of soils that help a certain types of plants. One of the questions that we have is why is agronomy so important and how can agronomy feed the world?
Research Question How can abiotic stress affect radish when exposed to temperature, light, and water ? How we came up with this question was during lesson about abiotic and biotic stresses
Predictions How would temperature, light, and water affect the growth of radishes if we weren’t consistent with what it needs? Radishes depend on water to grow. We plan to test radishes in three different conditions and provide a group of radishes with everyday water and the other group only three times per week. To see how much water is needed for their growth and the effect it has if were not consistent.
Experimental Design Our plan is to have 3 packs of 6 cut in half and experiment with light, temperature, and water. Since the packs are cut in half, each pack is going to have a good side and bad side. For light we are going to have half a pack in the dark with hardly any sunlight and the other pack in the grow light tower. We want to see how light affects our radishes.Sandy is going to be in charge of checking light on the daily. For temperature we are planning to have half a pack inside a cold room and the other with a heat lamp and test it for wind durant. We want to see if temperature does matter in growing radishes. Joshua is going to be in charge of checking the radishes and taking daily samples. For water Pamela and Kenia are going to be watering half a pack on the daily and the other pack getting little to no water or too much water. Materials we will be using: Miracle-Gro Potting Soil Mix Six pack seeding cups Water Grow light tower Heat Lamps Fans
