We are exploring on how a specific amount of water affects different species of seeds! |
Research Question |
How does one half cup of water every two days affect different seeds? We wanted to experiment with different seeds and wanted to include which plant would grow best with this specific rainfall. Our different seeds are ryegrass, alfalfa, buckwheat, nasturtium. |
Predictions |
We predict alfalfa will grow the best because in our past experience, alfalfa is very good at adapting to different weather and rainfall. |
Experimental Design |
We are going to plant 5 seeds of each plant on the same day at the same time and keep them in the classroom in the same place. We will each care for one species of seeds, five seeds each. Every two days we will give them a half cup of water. the water will be from the same faucet at the same temperature. At the end of the two weeks we will measure which grew the best and compare them. Our independent variable is the plant species. Our dependent variables are the pots, growth time, water amount, temperature, amount of seeds and soil amount. |
Conclusion |
We measured the percent germinated and the two seeds that germinated the most seeds were alfalfa and buckwheat. We have decided not to include the data from ryegrass because the caretaker of the plants planted too many seeds and if we included it, this would become an unfair experiment.
Percent Germinated:
Buckwheat- 60%
Alfalfa- 60%
Nasturtium- 20%
Ryegrass- not included |
