Through our many years of science, we have learned all about plants and animals, and are excited to conduct our very own plant experiment! We've learned about how plants get food from sunlight and water and were learning about the germination process right now. We're ready to plant some seeds, and learn even more!! |
Research Question |
How will the growth and the plant change if we put one seed in a damp paper towel and one in normal soil if we give the same amount of water and nutrients? |
Predictions |
We think that the plant in the paper towel will grow less because the plant in the soil is getting a lot more nutrients plus water and sunlight. The plant in the paper towel is only getting water and sunlight with no extra nutrients. |
Experimental Design |
We put two pea seeds in an environment that they can grow. One of them we put in normal soil, and one of them we put in normal soil. They both get the same amount of sunlight and water every day. We have a spreadsheet where we record the height of the plant. |
Conclusion |
Our conclusion is that planting a plant in a wet paper towel is less efficient than using normal soil. Using our data we have figured out that all the peas in soil have grown a lot more than the peas in wet paper towels. The average height in centimeters for soil is 12.25 cm. The average height in centimeters for the paper towels is 3.75 cm. |
