Research Question |
How do different salt levels effect the growth and the development of the plant. The sea water and the native coastal environment of the water fern make it susceptible to hurricane surges, and rising sea levels, and what limits does it have for salinity intrusion. |
Predictions |
We will test the concentrations of salt in the water used by the plant and how it effect the Alternation of Generation life cycles. The possible outcomes are that it is a deficit in the reproduction of spores, there is an increase in the production of spores and there is no change within the perimeters. Given the higher concentration of salt the plant will struggle with maintaining its water content and therefore stress it other processes such as the germination of spores to reproduce. |
Experimental Design |
The plan would be to use three plants to test this. The plants would be one with fresh water one with brackish water and one with salt water comparable to the concentration as the sea. first plant would be the control and would be given the same amount of water daily as the other two plants but only fresh water, the other two would be given measured, and consistent solutions of salt water with increasing concentrations. |
