We know plants are alive, but we don't know if seeds are. We haven't done anything in class to do with plants yet. Are seeds alive? |
Research Question |
We want to test whether or not seeds are alive. Specifically do they respond to stimuli? We came up with these questions when studying the seven characteristics of life. |
Predictions |
We think the seeds given the water will grow the most. The one given apple juice will grow a little. Rubbing alcohol, amonia water, and hand sanitizer are not expected to grow much at all. We know that plants need water to grow, and apple juice has some water in it. The others don't. (Except the water of course!) |
Experimental Design |
We have exposed 15 seeds to 5 different environments (water, hand sanitizer, apple juice, rubbing alcohol, and ammonia) and have put them in the same lighting and temperature to control the experiment. We also distributed the same amount of liquid to each environment. We plan to measure the height of each seed in each environment whenever we have science class, and track the results in a table. |
