fchslashpolspring2022 project 2

Project by group fchslashpolspring2022

Explore Trees can be identified by using a dichotomous key and leaves. Trees can be healthy or unhealthy and you can tell this by physical attributes. We learned that pollen can travel far.
Research Question How far does pollen travel from a cherry tree? How healthy are the trees in the forest behind the school.
Predictions Pollen travels 200 yards. The forest is full of healthy trees.
Experimental Design Pollen study: put pollen traps at three different increments (20 yards, 40 yards, 80 yards) from a cherry tree. Trees: We measured the following characteristics: moss growing on the tree, holes, scars, broken branches, rotting, and exposed roots.
Conclusion We were unable to draw a conclusion from the pollen study because our traps didn't have anything on them. The forest was full of mostly unhealthy trees. We would like to further research the causes of tree stress in the forest and how to improve it.
