What we know about plants outside of school is for one we knew names of plants. Watermelon, Beans, Carrots, Tomato, Celery, Eggplant, Avocado, Zucchini, Papaya, etc. We all know how to use fertilizer and what it does positively with planting. We all have experiments working in gardens and how to plant and transplant plants beforehand. What we have discovered in class is that soil apparently has different types and our background research is germinating radish seeds in microwaves. Is their healthcare for plants? |
Research Question |
Germination with radish seeds in microwaves, will they grow or not? We came up with the question by thinking of questions that would relate to the topic. This main question fits because with what we know we will determine if the radish seeds will grow or not. |
Predictions |
In conclusion our hypothesis was correct within our whole experiment. Our control group like we thought it would grow really well in fact. Our other experiments that were put into the microwave though did not grow at all like we theorized. Although our hypothesis seems correct there was a bit of room for error. In the experiment we wrapped our seeds very tightly which would have contributed to the seeds not sprouting along with the fact that some of the seeds dried faster than others meaning they could’ve dried completely, therefore killing the seeds. |
Experimental Design |
Our plan was to put each five radish seeds into a paper towel, fold it, make it moist by slightly pouring water onto the paper towel with the seeds inside, then put them in the microwave for the limited time they need. Then finally after you microwave them put them in zip lock bags and zip them up tightly. Ever so often water the paper towels to keep the seeds moist for germination. Our variables is to test radish seeds on the time they're in the microwave and the germination progress. We will record our data by a bar graph. |
Conclusion |
Our claim was that our radish seed that we microwaved didn't grow at all and our control group which wasn't in the microwave at all did grow. Our explanations on why our results happened might've been because we didn't put the seeds in the paper towel into a zip lock bag while they were in the microwave. Our data supports it because our control grew a lot while our others didn't. Put the seeds in the zip-lock bag while microwaving them. |
