We know photosynthesis has a huge part in plant life. We know plants need water, carbon dioxide, and some sort of light for photosynthesis to occur. |
Research Question |
What type of light effects the plant the best or the worst. |
Predictions |
I think the cup under the sunlight and black light will work the best because a black light and sunlight both produce uv light the best, I think the cup under the sun will work better than the black light just because the sun produces more uv than the black light |
Experimental Design |
We plan to have 3 different cups with 150 ml of water in each with carbon dioxide being present in them by blowing carbon into the water. We will put about 10 leaf cutouts in each cup to test how many leaf cutouts will float due to photosynthesis. We will also add soap to break down the protective layer around the leafs so the carbon can be absorbed easier. One cup will be in a window seal for sunlight, that will be the control group. The other cup will be under a black light because it produces uv light similar to the sun. The last cup will be a cup under complete darkness to see if it will still go through photosynthesis. We will then measure the process of photosynthesis by counting how many leafs start floating after 20 minutes. |
