Grimmy Grass

Project by group dmsstiemspring2022

Explore They need light, water, and Co2 They produce their energy Germination: the sprouting of a seed, spore, or other reproductive body, usually after a period of dormancy. The absorption of water, the passage of time, chilling, warming, oxygen availability, and light exposure may all operate in initiating the process. In the process of seed germination, water is absorbed by the embryo, which results in the rehydration and expansion of the cells. Shortly after the beginning of water uptake, or imbibition, the rate of respiration increases, and various metabolic processes, suspended or much reduced during dormancy, resume. These events are associated with structural changes in the organelles (membranous bodies concerned with metabolism), in the cells of the embryo.
Research Question Does the type of water affect the growth of the plant?
Predictions Kelsie thinks that the Fiji water will grow at the fastest rate because Fiji water is purified. Vincent thinks the lake water will grow at the fastest rate because it's natural water. Bryce thinks Fiji water will grow at the fastest rate because it is natural water. Noah thinks that Fiji water has refined vitamins and nutrients.
Experimental Design !.) Put paper towel in petri dish with 1 tbsp of water 2.)Insert 3 Buckwheat seeds in each petri dish (6 petri dishes) 3.)Put the top onto the petri dishes 4.)Put the petri dishes on a window sill 5.)Water the plant everyday with 1 tbsp of water in 2nd hr 6.)We will measure the growth of the plant timing how long it takes for the seed to grow and germinate
Conclusion Lake water grew the best and the fastest because its main ingredients are phosphorus and nitrogen. It is important for a plant to have phosphorus because it needs to have the nutrients to grow better. Also phosphorus is in all fertilizers. Nitrogen on the other hand doesn’t really do anything, it just helps the plant breathe so it will grow. Although those are very important ingredients to have while growing a plant you can’t have too little of them or else the plant's stem will become very weak. If you have too much phosphorus and nitrogen the plant could kill the plant. This is because the plant only needs a little nitrogen and if the leaves turn yellow then there is too much nitrogen.
