The Corn Whisperers

Project by group dmsstiemspring2021

Explore I have a garden in my backyard and I have planted seeds at my grandmas house, From Sam. Greg has planted a tree in his backyard before. In class we have learned about seed germination and what it needs like water and it expand over time. photosynthesis it need water co2 energy to make it work.
Research Question How does the concentration of orange juice effect a seed growth.
Predictions Christian said That the seed will grow worse the water will. Gregory said That the water grow the seed best water and the orange will come close. Ian said That the orange juice and water will only grow better than the orange juice. I said That the water will grow the best and the orange juice will grow the worst.
Experimental Design Independent Variable: The type of liquid added Dependent Variable: Seed Germination Variables to control : The amount of liquid added Liquids: (Orange Juice, water and Orange juice and water mixed.) Type of Seed: (Corn Seeds.) Materials: Paper towel, orange, Juice, water, Bags, Corn seeds 10 per bag. (Ian’s bag, 6 ml water and paper towel) (Greg’s bag 2ml water 4 ml orange juice paper towel) (Sam’s bag 4ml water and 2 ml orange juice and paper towel) (Christian’s bag 6 ml orange juice and paper towel)
Conclusion Evaulation:The three things we could’ve done differently is to water the plants more than once a week. I could’ve not move the seeds a lot. I also would have put the seeds in a better place to be and not the bottom of the closest draw. I would put the seeds under a grow light and water them more than once a week. I feel somewhat confident on my project I could’ve had less mistakes but the results turned out how I expected. Claim: The concentration of oranges juice effect a corn seeds growth because the orange juice has acid and sugar so it will grow mold instead of the corn seed. Evidence :My claim is correct because on our data at the end of the project the orange juice had only .4 cm of growth. But compared to the water at the end of the project grew an outstanding 4.3cm. So that's why water is better for plants compared to orange juice. Reasoning: The concentration of orange juice effect a corn seeds growth not just because google says it will kill it but also based on the data shown and I told you. The reason why it did this because of the sugar and the acid inside the orange juice it blocked the way the liquid goes through.Once the orange juice was in the bag it started to grow mold overtime. The orange juice didn’t help the seed at all. The water on the other hand helped it so much it grew 1.1cm in over 4 days. This is because the water goes through the stems because there is no sugar or acid. So that’s why it affects it so much.
