They need water good temperature and a good location to have a successful germination. They go through photosynthesis after germination. When plants metabolism slows down a lot they go into a dormant state where they cant germinate. |
Research Question |
How does the amount of fertilizer effect the germination rate of a buckwheat seed? |
Predictions |
If fertilizer increases the rate of germination, then using a higher amount should impact the germination rate by making it higher because it will have more of the resources necessary to grow. |
Experimental Design |
Ratios: Bottle 1 - All fertilized potting soil.
Bottle 2 - Half organic and half fertilized potting soil.
Bottle 3 - All organic potting soil.
Current procedure:
1. Mix fertilized and organic potting soils with water when needed in a clear bottle.
2. Place buckwheat seeds along the edge of the bottle.
3.Record the rate of germination for 2 weeks. |
Conclusion |
This occurred because most fertilizers are NPK, or nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. These fertilizers work by giving the soil the essentials for germination that the soils lack. This explains why the more fertilizer a plant has, the faster and better it grows. |
