Germination is when the plant starts to grow. For germination to be possible the plant needs water, a good temperature, and a good location. For the seed to start germination it uses the stored up glucose from the original plant its from. |

How does the amount of water that a radish seed is given effect the rate of germination? |
Predictions |
Claire- The petri dish with four drops of water per seed
Emma- The petri dish with four drops of water will germinate the fastest
Ashton- The petri dish with five drops of water will germinate the fastest.
Maddie- The petri dish with three drops of water will germinate the fastest. |
Experimental Design |
1- Get 5 perti dishes, and put 8 radish seeds in each. 2- We leave the petri dishes on the counter and not under direct light. 3- Give each seed the amount of water it needs. For dish 1 give 1 drop to each seed all the way up till 5 drops.
4-Record data everyday for what happens to the seeds. 5- Watch for 8 days in all, after record what % of seeds germinate. |
Conclusion |
Dish #5 germinated the fastest. It did this because it had the right amount of water in its dish. Dish #5 had more water than dish #2 and it grew faster. By day 2 all the seeds in dish 5 were growing, but dish 1 was all dried out. When you give a plant more water it grow faster than plants that dont get as much because one thing that plants need for germination is water. If they have to much they drown, but if they don't have enough they will dry out and die. |
