Research Question |
How does the intensity of light affect the speed of germination of a pea plant? |
Predictions |
If we wrap a bottle with three layers of wax paper, then it will germinate the fastest because seeds need just the exact right amount of light intensity to germinate the fastest. Therefore, no wax paper is too much and five layers is too little so three layers is right in the middle - the perfect amount. |
Experimental Design |
1) Get three clear, plastic, waterbottles
2) Line bottom of all three waterbottles with 10 pea seeds each
3) Place a wet paper towel on bottom and up sides of plastic waterbottles
4) Put clean sand in the bottom to keep the wet paper towel down
5) Leave one waterbottle uncovered
6) Wrap one waterbottle in three layers of wax paper
7) Wrap final waterbottle in five layers of wax paper
8) Record how many days it takes for seeds in each bottle to germinate (germination is as soon as you can see the radicle sprouting out of the pea seed) while placed in the light of the classroom during the day, and darkness at night |
