Plants have a cell wall when animal cells don't. |
Research Question |
How can you control the amount of time it takes to flower? |
Predictions |
I think the plant will grow at its own pace and will need constant water and sunlight to grow to full size.
I think the plant with more fertilizer will grow faster because there are more nutrients, therefore there will be less competition and more room to grow from the extra nutrients. I also think that this means the plant in the fertilizer will flower the fastest because it has extra nutrients to grow more quickly. |
Experimental Design |
Our plan is to have three different tests within this experiment. We are trying to test how one can control the time it takes for the same type of plant to flower. The variable we are testing is the time it takes for the flower to sprout. We will measure the amount of soil, pearlite, and fertilizer are used in each test. We will keep the volume of the bottles, the amount of water, and the water delivery method constant. We have one control where the tester follows very specific instructions to create a control. This is the plant that the other two testers will compare their results to. The second tester will have the same setup as the control except they will add more fertilizer. The third tester will have the same setup as the control except they will add more pearlite than the control. We will record the measurement of the amount of water, soil, fertilizer, pearlite, and the time it takes the plant to flower, in each experiment. We will then record the data on a table. After the flowers have sprouted we will compare the control to the other experiments in the table to see which variable had the largest effect on the time it takes the plant to grow. |
