We didn't know much about plants before this experiment but we did know that plants need energy from photosynthesis. To test this we thought about the different kinds of light we could use. C-ferns need light energy to reach sexual maturity, so we thought that it would be interesting to change the light that the c-ferns would be getting. |
Research Question |
How would different wavelengths of light affect the gametophyte's sexual maturity? |
Predictions |
If we wrap the petri-dish in purple cellophane then the c-fern will grow faster because plants need energy and purple light produces the most energy. |
Experimental Design |
We used four petri-dishes and put a few drops of c-ferns, then we wrapped each dish in a covering: purple, red and clear cellophane and foil. we then marked each dish with five spots where five spores were so we could be collecting data from the same c-ferns. we measured them by looking under the microscope to see their sexual maturity. |
Conclusion |
Purple light energy provides the most energy for c-ferns to grow. according to our data, the dish wrapped in purple cellophane had the most growth the fastest, which proves our hypothesis to be correct. |
