Plants need water, soil, nutrients, sun, and Carbon dioxide to grow. There are favorable environments for a plant to grow. Some plants require more sun and water than others. Something we have discovered is that the mass of a plant comes from carbon dioxide. We are interested in finding out how long the process of germination takes and what nutrients do plants need.

Experimental Design |
Independent variable: Seed type (peas, alfalfa, buckwheat, nasturtium), all dicots
Dependent variable: time at which plants sprout (days after planting), height of the plants at different times
Control: Potted plants without water
1. Pot plants in four 2-inch-diameter pots, each filled with 3 inches soil. Place 5 seeds an inch deep into soil for each plant type.
2. Place plants next to each other in an outside area with equal amounts of sunlight.
3. Water plants with one ounce of water twice a week.
4. Check plants every day to see if they have sprouted. Record number of days they took to sprout. |
