We learned about photosynthesis, briefly. We are interested in learning about under what conditions a seed is able to germinate. We developed our question for our experiment through research in our class. |
Research Question |
How does the amount of sunlight provided affect the growth of monocots vs. dicots? |
Predictions |
We think that the monocot will grow better in the sunlight, but the dicot will grow better in the darkness. |
Experimental Design |
We will plant 10 rye grass seeds (monocot) and 10 pea seeds (dicot) in total darkness, and another set of 10 of each in a controlled amount of sunlight, and a final batch in total light.
Materials: 30 Pea Seeds, 30 Rye Grass Seeds, Water, Soil, Total Sunlight Area, Total Darkness Area, Controlled Area, And 60 Containers
Variables Tested: Amount of Sunlight, Monocots (Rye Grass), and Dicots (Peas)
Replictes: 30 Rye grass seeds and 30 Pea seeds
1.) Plant all the seeds
2.) Put 10 rye grass seeds (monocot) and 10 pea seeds (dicot) in complete darkness
3.) Put 10 rye grass seeds and 10 pea seeds in total sunlight
4.) Put 10 rye grass seeds and 10 pea seeds in a controlled area
5.) List observations and record data |
