In order for plants to grow and develop it is necessary that they have necessary amounts of sunlight and water in order to photosynthesize. Soil types change the amount of nutrients and water that can be contained in the soil. |
Research Question |
Our research question is how the density of seeds will affect their growth. |
Predictions |
We think that the more dense the seeds are planted the less the plants will grow because the more plants in an area the more the plants will compete for the water and nutrients. |
Experimental Design |
We will have three different plots of the seeds. Plot A is the control group and Plot B and C is the tested group. We will be planting the radish seedlings 1/2" deep, and 6" apart in Plot A. In Plot B, the seeds will be 1/2" deep, and 3 inches apart. In Plot C, the seed will be 1/2"deep, and 1 inch apart. We will then measure the growth of the radish seedlings in order to see if the density of the seeds would cause competition for nutrients and detriment the growth of the crops. We will measure once on Mondays and once on Fridays from the soil to the top of the plant and record what they look like. Then after we harvest the radishes measure top to bottom of the whole plant and measure how big the radish root is (width and length). We will harvest after 25 days of planted and be measuring over the span of the 25 days. We will water all of the plants 150 mL per seed once a week, they will be stored in the greenhouse, and they will be planted in potting soil. |
Conclusion |
The close the seeds were sowed, the faster and larger they grew. |
