Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
My research interest focuses on understanding how plants manage to deal with an expected low energy level as a result of a nutrient deficiency or a sudden low/no light availability and how they adjust their metabolism to this stressful situation.

  • Profile Question 1
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
The most important I got to learn about plants and biology in a broad sense is most likely that there is always much more to learn. It's a fascinating never ending process.

  • Profile Question 2
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
Mainly by accident I would say. And also because all over my early education cursus, I always had the chance to be surrounded by motivating and fascinated mentors who created the needed sparkle and managed to help me to find my way through the academic world.

  • Profile Question 3
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
I don't like this word 'tough'. I prefer much more 'challenging'. Our work is challenging on almost a daily basis: unexpected results, new scientific questions popping-up while the ones before were not answered yet, the large complexity of working on a living organism. But that's what make our work exciting!
