  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am interested in plant pathology, specifically, fungal pathogens of forest trees. Right now I am working with fungal endophytes present in the needles and seeds of Western white pine. Endophytes lessen disease severity, and it is crucial to determine where in the plant the most effective endophytes reside. There is evidence that seed microbes are actually very antagonistic, much more so than foliar endophytes. I am also interested in poplar rust and whether gene dosage affects resistance to this disease.

  • Profile Question 1
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
The best thing about being a scientist is that you constantly discover new and exciting things; you never stop learning. As a person who loves to learn, I am excited at the idea of encountering novel ideas and discoveries. There is truly no limit in research; it can take you places you never imagined!

  • Profile Question 2
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
Sometimes, it can be frustrating when you get results that you cannot explain. Especially when you work with plants, as plants obviously cannot talk to you and describe what is going on! It's tough to pour a lot of time and effort into an experiment and not get the results you expect. But when this happens, it is important to stay motivated and try to attack the problem from a different angle. Don't give up!

Hi team, very interesting results! If you were to repeat this experiment, what would you do differently?

I am glad you came to this realization! It's okay, we are all still learning! Is there a chance to repeat?
