Biology, bio-chemistry, ecology related topics abiding IB Animal experimentation policy.

  • Profile Question 1
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Development of basic scientific research and design cycle must be practiced. The research topic may not be a ground breaking research but should revolve around improvising simple instruments in daily life, exploring simple open ended questions -as simple as comparing different types of vinegar available in market and establishing health advantages/disadvantages. Results are not right or wrong, the skill to evaluate and improvise should be focused the most .

  • Profile Question 2
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
While guiding a student in her research to compare the amount of vitamin A in 4 different varieties of salad leaves available in Malaysia based on the period of harvest (30 fays vs 45 days and 60 days), we reached to the conclusion that longer the growth time higher is the vitamin A content but more bitter is the taste and poor market acceptability. This was also against the view of consumers obtained via survey and interview that younger the plant, more healthier in nutrients it is. Also the exposure to UV rays falling on the earth cause the levels of vitamin A increase in the plants.

  • Profile Question 3
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
At school level, following and abiding Animal experimentation policy blocks any research related to human physiology. Students have most plans revolving around live animal or peers which is difficult to research. School laboratories do not have enough apparatus and instruments as data loggers to provide precise and accurate results.
