  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
My research focus is in plant-bacterial interaction, specifically how pathogens deployed a wide range of effector proteins and small molecules to interfere with plant immunity responses.

  • Profile Question 1
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Science, specifically biology, has always been fascinating to me. Since I was a kid, I love to watch documentary videos about plants and animals, how they evolved and adapted to their environment. I love working with plants, and I love microbes too. And that's why I decided to pursuit a career in plant pathology, where I can have the best of both worlds, working on both sides of the interaction that drives the outcome of these long-lived symbiotic relationships between plants and microbes.

  • Profile Question 2
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
Doing science is fun. It's like the feeling you have when you're trying a new recipe when cooking, and the new dish turned out to be fantastic. Being a scientist also means you are surrounded by a lot of other brilliant minds, to whom you can exchange ideas with. You also need to keep yourself updated with new technologies in your field that come out almost every day in other to stay on top of the game, which sounds crazy but it is also fun at the same time.

  • Profile Question 3
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
Prepare yourself: get to know what a science career is like first before you made a decision. Go to local college/university, and reach out to faculty members at those institutions and ask them if there is any kind of internship available in their labs and try to get a taste of doing science there. Science is fun, but it is also hard and does not fit everyone. But if you like it, a science career is the best and most fulfilling career that anyone can think of.
