Research Interests (300 words)
I am interested in restoration and conservation biology. I focus primarily on insects and what they can tell us about a restored habitat. I do this by sequencing mitochondrial genomes and examining the populations of insects. I am currently working on native american bees, but am open to exploring other taxa in the future.

When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

I was 17 at the zoo. At that point I was thinking about working with people. I visited our insect building and watched the butterflies with their chrysalis's. At that point I realized I wanted to work with plants and animals.

What is best about being a scientist?

Exploring the world around us. There is so many neat and cool things out there. Venomous primates, parasitoid wasps, carnivorous plants, etc.

What is a typical day like for you?

I am normally at school by 8:30 where I attend classes. Depending upon the day I may be working on my research or reading scientific articles regarding my field(s). I teach two labs during the week and assist with set up of the lab.
