Profile

  • Time Zone
    Mountain

  • Organization
    University of Alberta

  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am fascinated by symbiotic interactions between species, especially parasitism. My PhD work has investigated the ecology and evolution of parasitism by performing artificial selection experiments on a facultative parasitic mite. Although I do not work with plants currently, I have worked with them in the past and my experience in experimental design, ecology and evolution can be applied to many taxanomic systems.

  • Profile Question 1
What lessons have you learned in your career about how science works?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
First, no one can know everything and a lot of mistakes will be made. That is okay though because mistakes can bring the best learning moments! Science is a lot of trial and error as well as learning!

  • Profile Question 2
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
I knew from an early age that I loved science and wanted to be a scientist; I was always questioning and exploring the world around me. However, not everyone will know what they want right away and that is okay. I knew I wanted to pursue a science career after getting some experience in a research lab. I enjoyed the independence in my work as well as the constant learning and problem-solving.

  • Profile Question 3
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
Some days it is tough to deal with experiments or work that doesn't work out the way I would like it to and I will feel down on myself. But it's okay that experiments don't work out how we expect! That's how we learn and discover new things and I always pick myself back up.

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?

Very cool.

Why do you think photosynthesis might increase with pH?

Please let me know if you have anything further questions.

Excellent! That will work just fine for your project. It is a different species and it is aquatic!

Hello!

I took a look at your data. What did you use to change the pH?

What do you think about your data? What can you conclude?
