  • Profile Question 1
What is your favorite plant? Why?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
My favorite plants are the giant sequoias that grow in the Sierra Nevada. Being in the presence of these ancient trees was a magical experience for me. These are my favorite plants because of their amazing size, their rarity, and their adaptations to fire.

  • Profile Question 2
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
The coolest thing I have learned about plants is how the dominant phase of life cycles shifts from being the gametophyte generation in the mosses, to the sporophyte generation in ferns and later seed plants.
The amazing diversity in which these seeds are dispersed is also incredible. My favorite example is the coconut tree whose fruit are dispersed by water which is why these trees are so abundant in areas close to shore.

Interesting research question!   Here is something to think about.  Do you think the optimum temperatures for photosynthesis could also depend on the characteristics of the plant you choose to experiment with?  E.g., if your…
