Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am broadly interested in plant and disturbance ecology. During my MSc work I looked at changes in forest-grassland ecotones in southwest Yukon. For my PhD work I studied how mammals, mostly moose and snowshoe hare, affect tree growth and forest composition in post-fire areas of interior Alaska. I am interested in how both small and large-scale disturbances alter the boreal forest at both the individual and landscape scale.

  • Profile Question 1
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
The best thing about being a scientist is you get to study and read about what you love every day! Whatever you are interested in, you can study as a graduate student which is really cool.

  • Profile Question 2
Can you describe your attitude toward science when you were in high school?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
I was immediately interested in science when I started high school. I enjoyed Biology the most and really liked doing animal dissections. Although I now study plants, my interest in Biology in high school pushed me to pursue a degree in Biology at University where I found myself leaning more towards learning about plants.

Nicely outlined! For your hypothesis though, it would be great to include why you think the red light will be better for photosynthesis than the regular light. Then that helps get at the mechanism behind photosynthesis and your experiment!

Great! What were the results like? Were they what you expected?

Hi Chandler, what do you think of these results? Can you explain to me a bit more about what you were measuring for the light and dark categories?
