  • Research Interests (300 words)
During my PhD life, I used genetic encoded calcium sensor YC3.6 to identify important molecules to regulate plant development and signaling. In the plant mechanosensing project, I have been able to screen a RLK family in Arabidopsis by monitoring extracellular change, and one mutant feronia showed several defects of mechanosensitive phenotypes. fer also showed an abnormal touch- and bending-induced Ca2+ and pH signaling. In my second project, I screened CNGC ion channel and found out CNGC14 is playing an important role to modulate gravity- and auxin-induced Ca2+ response which is a mysterious question since 1935. In my postdoc research, I switched from plant to giardia which has been considered as an ancient eukaryote in phylogenetic tree, and I am focusing on the role of giardia Ca2+ signaling in many aspects.

  • Profile Question 1
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
There is an unexpected thing everyday.

  • Profile Question 2
What is your favorite plant? Why?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
Jasmine. People in my hometown grow jasmine to make tea, and it has simple flowers but fragrant.

  • Profile Question 3
What was the first science experiment you ever designed? How did it turn out?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
When I was a high school teacher, I designed a simple experiment to test the paths of water and nutrient transport in Taiwan Echerveria during the regeneration of root and shoot of single leaf. I used this project to ask students to come up with several ideas to investigate this question. During those three years, my high school students got several awards from international and local scientific competitions.

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?
    1
