  • Research Interests (300 words)
I study diseases of horticultural plants (fruit, flowers, vegetables, trees, turf)

  • Profile Question 1
Can you describe your attitude toward science when you were in high school?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
To be honest I was not super excited about my high school science classes but I loved being outside and learning about nature and plants in a more hands-on way. My parents took us hiking at state parks all the time.

  • Profile Question 2
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
It is tough when it is hard to get an experiment to work, or the data are confusing. Sometimes there are long hours. But it is rewarding when things finally do work.

  • Profile Question 3
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
My career is a mix of research and discovery along with directly helping people who grow plants. I work with people who grow lots of different types of plants (fruit, vegetables, trees, grass, flowers). In that process I get to teach a lot of scientific principles to the public while helping them at the same time.
