  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am broadly interested in the soil chemistry and plant research, and have worked mostly in agricultural crops such as rice and wheat. My past research work focuses on interactions between soil, plants, water and the atmosphere to understand the nutrient cycling in different cropland systems. So far I have done both field and green house experiments on soil fertility and plant nutrition. My recent research work with undergraduate students of Harold Washington College is on phytoremediation of Lead, Zinc and Nickel using hyper accumulator plants.

  • Profile Question 1
What is your favorite plant? Why?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Rice, it feeds lots of world population

  • Profile Question 2
What was the first science experiment you ever designed? How did it turn out?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
Pot experiment in the green house

  • Profile Question 3
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
    Plants have senses as animals.

  • Availability
I am NOT available, please temporarily remove me from the available mentor list

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?

Yes Martin, although temperature, light and nutrition ( environmental factors) seems to have major effect, genetic factors also play role on plant heights.

Martin,

Have you started experiment? Looks like you are measuring variable Plant Height. Make sure you keep replications in your experiments such as 4-6 plants of parent and 4-6 plants offspring. Measure height every week once seedling retain…
