Research Interests (300 words)As a master's used, I was interested in a fungal pathogen infecting barley. However, I missed studying plants and processing taking place in their bodies and individual cells. It was thus rather easy to decide what field of Biology I would like to be involved in as a doctoral student. In my project, I study a tropical plant capable of switching between two different modes of carbon assimilation. This flexibility enables the plant to survive prolonged periods of drought and understanding this alternative pathway may open new strategies toward improving agriculturally important crops such as wheat or potato.

Profile Question 1When and why did you decide to go into a science career?
-
Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):I enjoyed my Biology classes since 6th grade or so but did not decide for a career in science until gaining extracurricular experience in 'real' labs in a few countries. Thanks to my internships, I learned how diverse field science is and how many interesting and inspiring people one can meet in the scientific community. Finally, I was mostly luck with my supervisors who always thought me so much and were a great inspiration thanks to sharing their passion for science with me. Now, besides trying to succeed in my own research project, I thus would like to share my experience and knowledge I have gained so far, hopefully inspiring others to study Plant Biology.

Profile Question 2What is best about being a scientist?
-
Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):You can do science literally in any part of the world. The metric units are the same worldwide and so are the biological processes taking place in our bodies, plants or cyanobacteria cells. Besides the freedom of choosing where you want to work/study, there are many more options: international and inter-institutional collaborations, the freedom to design your own experiments and to decide where to navigate your project.
-
Profile Question 3Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?
-
Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):Take advantage of any possibilities available and intriguing to you - maybe it be a student research project or cooperation with university. With hands-on experience it is so much easier to get a true picture of what science looks like. A good experience is the best trigger for those who are not sure whether science is the right career for them.

Hello,
I had a look on your files and it was enjoyable to see your work "wrapped up". Your poster sums up your experiment very well and proves you thought about your experiment and made sure to make it as controlled as possible. I also…

Hey guys,
I am wondering how's been your experiment going during the last week? Are there any signs of seeds germination already? Hopefully, there are no problems but if you have questions feel free to ask.
These does not need to be…

Hey everyone and thanks for your updates.
It is great to hear that you have already started with your investigations. Also, you have some expectations about possible outcome. That's important - we do experiments because we have…
