  Currently, I look at post-pollination development in aquatic angiosperms. My lab focuses mostly on species that undergo hydrophily, or water-facilitated pollination. I am interested in looking at how water-pollination affects the progamic phase, the stage between pollination and fertilization.

  Can you describe your attitude toward science when you were in high school?

  I really liked biology! I wasn't the best at it but I loved everything. I think my general attitude towards science was to be as open as possible. There were a lot of concepts I was learning for the first time, so it was a little difficult for me, but I still liked it.

  What is your favorite plant? Why?

  Ginkgo biloba, also known as ginkgo or the maidenhair tree. I love the fan shape of the leaf, it's so beautiful. It is also the only species left in its genus! This tree is also referred to as a living fossil, being found over 270 million years ago. Additionally it has strong cultural importance in asian culture, often found in buddhists monasteries being carefully nurtured by the monks.
