moreHi Skylar,
I am glad you got to do some hands on experimetn in class. Soil composition and texture is indeed important for plant growth, especially something to keep in mind for improving yeild of economically important agricultural crops. Clay soil has little to no organic matter, which is important for plant growth. Most vegetables and annual and perennials flowers dont like clay soil as dont have root structures that go deep. Trees which have deep roots can sustain well in clay soil. Also clay soil don't drain well and tends to retaina lot of water. Where I live, the soil is sandstone derived, it is usually deep, well drained, have high root zone available and have water-holding capacity.
