    Cornell University

  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am interested in non-chemical methods of controlling powdery mildew, a common fungal pathogen on edible crops, and understanding the circadian responses of powdery mildew in strawberry and grape. My research is focused on altering spectral conditions, either through supplementation or the natural variability in transmission properties of protective structures and observing growth responses. Powdery mildew species are particularly amenable to these studies due to their prolific growth in protected environments (e.g. greenhouse, high tunnel) and their growth mainly on the exterior of plant tissues.

  • Profile Question 1
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Being part of a community that always wants to solve the newest mystery, question the knowledge we currently have, and give credit to those that work alongside us and before us.

  • Profile Question 2
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
There are still plants we have never identified. Even of the plants we have identified we aren't always sure how to grow them!

  • Profile Question 3
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
Never let your own curiosity go to waste, and ask questions of others (scientists, friends, anyone) to engage that curiosity.

  • Availability
I am NOT available, please temporarily remove me from the available mentor list

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?

Thanks for uploading the slide show for the group, Mr. Bondgren!

I just took a look over your slides and things look good, Goobers. Great job! The slides were easy to follow and understand. This is key to letting other people repeat your…

Hey Goobers,

How are things going for your group? I'm wondering if any of you have taken a look at your data and written anything up that could be shared with me. I'd like to know what you found!

As long as you kept it the same for both experiments it's OK. If you were to repeat this experiment again in the future you may want to consider if this is an important factor.
