  • Time Zone
    Eastern

  • Organization
    University of Connecticut

  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am interested in the evolutionary history of land plants, specifically, bryophytes. My research interests are in the systematics of bryophytes and identifying characteristics for delineating cryptic species. I believe that through understanding the relationships and history of mosses, liverworts, and hornworts, we can develop a more complete understanding of key traits in plants, but also develop better hypotheses for the fate of plants in a climatically changing world.

  • Profile Question 1
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Every time I learn something new, I see more of the world around me as if it was for the first time. Some days, it seems as if I can hear the plants breathing!

  • Profile Question 2
What is your favorite plant? Why?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
Physcomitrium pyriforme. It's a small morphologically austere moss that most people don't see, and those who do will quickly say the name and keep walking, however, for those who take the time to look closely at this little plant, they will discover in its simplicity there is elegance.

  • Profile Question 3
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
Find what gets you really excited, I mean truly %100 excited, so excited that just doing the homework isn't enough for you to feel satisfied. Once you have found that organism, or mechanism, or system that you can't stop thinking about, then you can spend the rest of your life getting paid to learn, discover, and share information about your favorite thing.

  • Availability
I am NOT available, please temporarily remove me from the available mentor list

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?

So...., what has been hapening with your experiment? Do you have any results yet?

Did your results support your hypothesis? If not, how do you explain them?

Also be sure to pre-determine how much water each watering treatment gives. It should be the same for all, for example 250 mL per watering. THe amount used should make sense for the container size
