    I study plant microbes, both pathogens and symbionts. I aim to increase our understand of how microbes impact the health and fitness of plant hosts with the downstream goal of increasing crop production and advancing restoration efforts.

    Can you describe your attitude toward science when you were in high school?

    I have always loved science, but as a first generation college student I did not know about science careers outside of medicine. Later is college, I realized there are endless possibilities in research, and plants/microbes are amazing!

    What is best about being a scientist?

    Exchanging ideas and knowledge! Communication with other scientists and training/informing the next generation is how we advance our field and stay excited about our work.

    What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

    When plants are stressed (drought/disease) they put out molecular signals that recruits beneficial microbes from the soil.
