Profile

  • Time Zone
    Central

  • Organization
    Texas Tech University

  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
My research interests mainly include plant stress physiology, plant-insect interactions, conservation of endemic plant species and plant bio-monitoring.

  • Profile Question 1
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
You get to tell people all the cool facts about plant science such as plant blindness. I didn't even know the term before I joined Twitter but look at me now. I am talking about it to people to make them understand the importance of plants. Well, to be honest, we all evolved from single-celled blue-green algae. So one should be indebted to plants.

  • Profile Question 2
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
The tough part is rejection. Rejection about not getting a paper published or not getting a grant or not getting into a good school. But it's the part and parcel of being a scientist.

  • Profile Question 3
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
If you love and breathe science, why not? My dream has always been to communicate science clearly and with this pandemic, people have really been vocal and have come forward to know more about science. Of course, there will be myths but debunking those myths is the best part. Therefore if you love science, keep on asking questions and be curious. There are no stupid questions.

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?
