  Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  Try to look for hands-on experiences (by joining science clubs, volunteering at laboratories nearby, if available). I also recommend taking a statistics course as early as possible. Computer sciences courses are also becoming more and more important for data analysis in biology.

  What is your favorite plant? Why?

  I love figs! Fig plants have co-evolved with fig wasps to create an obligate symbiotic relationship. They require each other in order to reproduce! It is a fascinating example of co-evolution. Look it up!
